It's highly recommended that you adjust your button settings to the one that allows you to access the battlescape (tactical map) without calling up the thermal scan.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has the sprint function, which wrecks your map cheat, but only partially, since you can also cheat darkness by upping your video gamma setting to the maximum amount (this will still not aide in seeing through smoke though).
